With the current abuse of their habitat, there is a strong possibility that 75% of all Adelie penguin colonies could be facing extinction in the coming years. As the climate changes across the globe and snow becomes freezing rain, it is becoming harder for the young chicks to develop their water resistant layers that allow them to swim. Due to the drenching of their absorbent feathers when they are young thousands of young chicks shiver to death as they are unable to survive the cold rain. Not only that, but industrial fishing is also hampering their chances of survival.
